Biwakwango is a South African based and registered Tour Operator which creates and run adventure tours in Southern Africa for small groups and for individuals who prefer custom made tours. Biwakwango was founded by Thierry, a French man residing in South Africa for 13 years. His passion for Africa, adventure travel and his high aspiration for an environmental awareness and the well being of local people are his fundamental approaches for a sustainable tourism.

Our ethic:
Based on our field knowledge, we specialise ourselves in travel for small groups, guided or selfdrive. While maintaining our ethics and vision of sustainable tourism, we are able to design attractive tours that meet your desires.
We provide you with a prompt excellent service quality. We also travel in small groups on pre-designed itineraries, a number of which are presented on this site.
Sustainable tourism:
Biwakango’s approach of sustainable tourism takes into consideration environmental awarness due to the fact that the nature of tourism activities can have negative impacts on local populations as much as on the environment.Therefore we strive to mitigate these impacts by:
- Keeping our group sizes as small as possible ( a maximum of 10 people).
- Collaborating with accommodation providers which value good practices (solid waste management, sewage management, water consumption,etc) as well as involving the local communities in their operations.
- Informing our customers about environmental awarness and applying good practice.
- Recommending discoveries by means of harmless mode of transportation (walking, canoeing…ect).
Local communities :
Our trips are crafted so that local communities benefit directly from our tourism activities. This approach allows rich exchange under the sign of reciprocity! The reason why we support sustainable tourism is to ensure that the development is a positive experience for local people, our company and for the tourists themselves. We always recommend our clients to travel with a sensitive eye on natural resources offered by Africa, while taking into account the risks of changing the ecosystem, cultures and traditions of local populations. However, this could only be achieved by carefully selecting our partners (accommodations, transport, activities, ...etc) but also by limitingthe number of people in our groups.

Biwakwango is member of SATSA (Southern Africa Tourism Services Association). This organism represents the tourism private sector in South Africa. Its members demonstrate a high standard of service. Our company is also member of Cape Town Tourism, which is in charge of the promotion of sustainable tourism in the Cape region.
